Meet the Hammerheads 2013 Intern Staff

The recent release of the Hammerheads 2013 official game day schedule and player signings have not been the only new thing in our office lately; we also have five new interns with us. As the Hammerheads have done in the past, we decided to once again offer a handful of college students the opportunity to participate in a season long internship with us. As operations interns they will help the Hammerhead staff with things such as promotions, marketing, and game day events. While the interns lend us a hand we hope to provide them with valuable experience and an introduction to working in the professional sports field. Since they will be around the office and attending many of our home games we want you to get to know them!

This post is includes introductions written by each of our interns telling a little about themselves. Remember to be on the look out for them at our events and games!

Hi everyone! My name is Caitlin, I am currently a junior at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. I am a communication studies major and a leadership studies minor. I am so thrilled to be a part of the 2013 season internship staff with the Wilmington Hammerheads! After I graduate I hope to get a job dealing with sales and promotions, and I believe this internship will give me great experience with both. While unfortunately my dreams of being a soccer star were squashed after an unfortunate season on a co-ed elementary school team; I am so excited to be able to be involved with the sport again (especially watching and cheering from the sidelines). Although I will be helping behind the scenes until the season begins in April, I am already looking forward to attending our home games and meeting all of the cheerful fans. Go Hammerheads!

What’s up Hammerheads fans? My name is Zach and I am a senior computer science major with a minor in psychology at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. When I heard about the opportunity to intern with the Hammerheads, for me, it was a no-brainer. I have been playing soccer since before I could even walk (my mom has the home videos to prove it and will gladly show you) and have been an avid follower of professional sports my whole life. I also recently began coaching middle school soccer at St. Mark Catholic School here in Wilmington. Though my dreams of becoming a professional soccer player are gone thanks to too many late night Cook Out runs, I would like to use this internship to launch myself into a career in Sports Operations for a professional soccer team and along the way I hope to instill my love for the game into some of you as well! I can’t wait to see everyone at Legion and Go Hammerheads!

Hey guys! My name is Taylor Hewitt and I am currently a junior at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. I am a Marketing major and Leadership Studies minor. After graduation, I hope to pursue a career in Sports Marketing, so this internship is my first step! Even though I have never played soccer before, sports are a huge part of my life due to my many years of cheerleading and dancing. I was previously a member of the UNCW dance team so I am excited to be back in the sports atmosphere and interact with all the enthusiastic Hammerhead fans. The 2013 season will be here before we know it and I cannot wait to get to know everyone! Let’s Go Hammerheads!!!!

How’s it going Hammerhead fans?  I’m Brad, one of the new Hammerhead interns!  I am currently finishing up my business degree at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.  I will be graduating in May with degrees in both an operations management and an economics.  From a young age I loved playing sports, but in high school, I picked up the game of lacrosse, and led the team as captain my last two years there.  I’m unsurprisingly an avid sports fan and my favorite professional teams are the New York Yankees, Green Bay Packers, and of course the Wilmington Hammerheads! The opportunity with the Hammerheads is a great way to meet new people, get involved in the community, and also learn the business behind a sports franchise. As the season approaches, we are working hard to deliver a great experience for all of our fans and I hope to see you all at the Legion Stadium! Go Hammers!!
