Enter Stage Right for Two Hammerheads

The crowns were out Saturday night at the Minnie Evans Art Center as the contestants in the 2013 Miss Wilmington Scholarship Pageant took the stage. Competition for the title of Miss Wilmington was surely bittersweet for Miss Greater Wilmington 2012, Alexis Gonzalez, who crowned Zelle Brown as Miss Wilmington 2013 to take on her reign and represent the Wilmington area in various special occasions and events.

However, the Miss Wilmington contestants were not alone. They were escorted by two players from the Wilmington Hammerheads, Tyler Lassiter and Gareth Evans. Looking dapper in their tuxedos generously donated by Men’s Wearhouse of Wilmington, Lassiter and Evans shared the spotlight with the contestants as they walked them across stage during different phases of the competition.

While it was all seriousness and nerves on stage, it was conversing and nothing but fast paced back stage. The players, contestants, and staff enjoyed laughs behind the curtains as Lassiter crowned himself as a Carolina Princess, a crown given to young girls usually between the ages of five and ten. All joking aside, Lassiter and Evans were the perfect counterparts to the lovely contestants for the evening.
